A Blowing Bubbles Day

Bubbles I was returning from an afternoon walk heading down an out of the way trail that passes by a small baseball diamond. I saw children in the distance and I could hear that distinct wall of noise that comes from a little league game. As I glanced over into the tall grass alongside the trail, I was taken by the shining face of a smiling little blonde haired boy that appeared from behind the grass. He could not have been more than two years old. He was wearing the most adorable smile that clearly outweighed his tiny little frame. He had perfect bangs covering his forhead helping to enhance his bright star filled eyes that by now were firmly fixed upon Domino my Jack Russel Terrier. The boy seemed to be moving in slow motion as we passed him by.

Bubble_boy Walking away I found myself thinking about blowing bubbles. How strange that blowing bubbles came to the forefront of my mind at that moment. I remembered the magic feeling that blowing bubbles would produce when I was a boy. Dip the wand into the soapy water and then gently blow, out came this magnificently shiny, reflective bubble immediately tossed into random motion by the air. If you blew hard enough you could produce multiple bubbles all at once. What an incredible feeling that was, whipping bubbles high up into the air out of nowhere with a feeling that time was standing still as I ran to catch them in my hand.

Domino_5The glowing smile on that boy's face today reminded me of the carefree feeling and unexpected joy that I often experienced blowing bubbles. A similar joy apparent on that little boys face as he spied Domino walking by in his dapper winter coat. Today was a good day to remember that kind of instantaneous joy. It was late in the afternoon, the sun was shining, the sky was a perfect crayon blue as time stood still. We were in no particular hurry to arrive anywhere at all. Today was a good day, it was a blowing bubbles day.

ah I love it...how ephemeral and beautiful Ray..thanks!.:)

You need a bubble gun. They are really cool. I'm sure my neighbors wonder what's going on in my back yard as masses of bubbles float about. LOL! This is one of the great things about being 42 and having a 3 year old.
