7 Spring Cleaning Tips to Free You from Life's Garbage
The official start of Spring is March 21st opening the door for that much overdue spring cleaning. Spring cleaning can be a useful event if you know how focus your attention on the right things. The key to your success is having a solid plan. I have compiled seven practical tips to help you prioritize the important stuff in life. It's not an exhaustive list by any means, but it's a great starting place. My guess is anything beyond these seven are most likely garbage.
1) Clear it!
Clear your garage of all that junk. Junk qualifies as anything in a box or pile that has not
been disturbed for a year or more. This is an easy task if you make it family fun time not a grueling one-man episode of The Amazing Race. Let it all go! It's garbage!
2) Sell it!
Have a one day only close-out Yard Sale. Your junk is gonna be worth something to someone. Everything must go! Take the remainder to Goodwill or to the dump. Chances are neither place will want it either. The idea here is to get rid of the clutter. Let it go man! It's garbage!
3) Clean it Out!
Clean out your side yard. By now it looks like the side of a trailer park dumpster. You have gathered
more scraps of wood than an eager beaver. You will feel so clean and tidy when it's done, making room for this year's new scraps. Let those scraps go! It's garbage!
4) Pay it Off!
Pay off at least two credit cards and then cancel the accounts. Do it now! You will thank me later. I did it and don't regret it. Paying those huge interest payments with money in savings is defeating the purpose. The interest is killing you. You'll just buy more junk to dispose of at next year's close-out Yard Sale. Let go of your debt! It's garbage!
5) Back it Up!
Back-up your hard drive. Especially your digital photos and digital music. This is one of the most overlooked items in our digital homes. You will only realize the true value of these assets once you've lost them. Use your Yard Sale money to buy your new back-up drive. Here are a few choices for reliable external drives that are a good value as well. The rest are garbage! My Book Lacie the Seagate and the very portable FireLite for road warriors.
6) Meet and Greet it!
Introduce yourself to at least two neighbors you have never met. Bring them some
nice bakery cookies with your hello. You will be shocked at how far a little friendliness goes in an isolated and lonely world (not a good idea for single women). One day something will happen relating to your kids or your dog and they will not hesitate to lend a hand. Let your pride go! It's garbage!
7) Yank it! and Plant it!
Yank out something dead, ugly or dying and plant something new for Spring. Planting something new brings such an invigorating feeling of freshness be it indoors or out. Plant something you can enjoy as you watch it grow. Fresh basil, cilantro or parsley are an easy start and good eating. The other herbs are garbage!
Now that you have committed yourself to accomplish these seven simple spring cleaning tasks you'll have plenty of time left to seed the lawn, clean the gutters, detail the car, rinse the lawn furniture, deep clean inside your house and get your 1979 VW Super Beetle convertible out from under it's cover and warmed up for the summer months ahead. vrroom!
Whatever spring cleaning regiment you choose to follow, I guarantee you will feel a huge sense of accomplishment clearing out the needless clutter in your life. Try to make your spring cleaning a family adventure with some incentives at the end of the rainbow. One last thing, remember to stash extra cash aside for summer vacation. It comes up quickly and it's always a temptation to charge vacation on the old plastic fantastic. You're over that now.

This was a great post. You've got the magazines beat with this one. Love what you said about the Credit cards and the Backing up your hard drives. Also you picked the right three herbs. LOL
Be safe...
